2004
Nano Summit
You
have heard the pundits; you have heard the trade association executives;
you have heard the venture capitalists. Now hear the scientific
researchers who are opening the door to the third industrial revolution.
Last
year, Nobel Laureate Rick Smalley was the kickoff speaker discussing
energy applications of nanotechnology. This year, Nobel Laureate
Ferid Murad will discuss “Nitric Oxide in Drug Development – How
Can Nanotechnology Be Involved?” Dr. Murad teaches and continues
his research at The University of Texas Health Science Center in
Houston.
In the
afternoon, Dr. Paul Chu of the University of Houston will present
“Create a Smart Fluid from Nano-Particles.” This multidiscipline
conference will open your mind to how disparate fields will impact
the foundation of your business. The other 17 speakers at this one-day
conference will present their research in the fields of materials
science, life science, energy and electronics/semiconductors. Confirmed
speakers include:
- Andrew Barron , Rebekah Drezek,
Michael Wong ; Vicki Colvin and Yuhuang Wang of Rice
University ;
- Samuel Ward Casscells
from the University of Texas Health Science Center of Houston
;
- Ananth Dodabalapur , Wolfgang
Frey , Brian Korgel and Tobias Hanrath of The University
of Texas at Austin ;
- Mauli Agrawal and Steven
Bailey of the University of Texas Health Sciences
Center at San Antonio ;
- Louis C. Brousseau , III
of Quantum Logic Devices;
- T. Randall Lee
of the University of Houston ;
- Meng Tao of The
University of Texas at Arlington ;
- Leonard Yowell
of NASA Johnson Space Center
This is
the only nano conference with a Nobel laureate as its kickoff speaker
for the last three years. We promote nanotechnology by showcasing
the leading edge research and directly introducing the best investigators
in the state that are delivering this leading edge of nanotechnology.
The
most important time of the conference can sometimes be the lunch,
breaks and poster session when attendees have a chance to discuss
details that cannot be covered in the Question & Answer period
following each speaker.
More
details, including speaker abstracts (as well as past conference
speaker abstracts) can be found on the Foundation's
web site.
If
you cannot attend personally, please pass this along to others in
your organization who would like to attend. The
early registration discount for the general public ends May 30.
Financial
sponsors for the 2004 Summit include: RGK Foundation, Page Southerland
Page, Frost National Bank, Pearland Economic Development, Fulbright
& Jaworski and RoadShow Media.
Co-hosting
this conference and assisting with publicity are the Rice Center
for Nanoscale Science and Technology and Rice Alliance for Technology
and Entrepreneurship, Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Greater
Houston Partnership, Houston Technology Center , Austin-San Antonio
Corridor , University of Texas IC 2 , Texas Healthcare and Biosciences
Institute, BioHouston, American Electronics Association (AeA) and
Texas Nanotechnology Initiative.
